Tackle Amazon Prime Day Like a Frugal Minimalist
What is Amazon Prime Day
Prime day is a day when Amazon has it’s biggest deals of the year. Amazon Prime Day has grown to be larger than Black Friday and Cyber Monday, combined. Meaning the deals on Prime Day are bigger and better than anywhere else, any time of the year! This year 2018, Prime Day is July 16 and starts at 2pm CST. Amazon Prime day will be offering over one million deals for 36 hours.
Why You Should Take Advantage of Prime Day
Since you can’t beat these deals anywhere else, you really need to take advantage of Amazon Prime Day. You will find deals on things you need and things you don’t need. Don’t take part in Amazon Prime day if you are just going to shop the deals and buy things on impulse. Have a plan and make this actually work for you.
Now is the time to get that item you have been saving for and stock up on Christmas and Birthday Gifts.
Keeping a Minimalist Mindset on Prime Day
If you don’t think you can control your impulse buying on Prime Day, then don’t participate. Just close this page right now. It’s a waste if you are just trying to score a good deal because it’s a good deal. While that is very tempting to do, it will cause you to waste money and clutter up your home.
If you don’t have any extra money to be spending right now, then just don’t.
Only buy things you know you need. Before you hit that “check out” button, ask yourself, “Do I really need this?” and “Where am I going to put this?” If you have a solid answer for both questions then go ahead with the purchase. If you don’t have a legitimate answer for one of the questions then you do not need to be buying that item.
What Kind of Deals Can You Expect
Everything. That’s right… Everything. That is why it is important to have an idea of what you are looking for. You can buy anything from a stockpile of paper towels to a new television.
The Exact Steps to Getting the Most of Prime Day Without Going Overboard
This page may contain affiliate links. Read my full disclosure here.
1.) Use this link and go sign up for an Amazon Prime Account. It’s $99 dollars a year or you can sign up for a Free 30 day trial. We have a prime account and the $99 is worth it. We would spend well over that in a year’s worth of shipping costs. If you order a lot online and have the money I would go ahead and buy the account. If you don’t want to spend the $99 then sign up for the free trial. You will need to cancel this before the 30 days is over. Put a reminder on your calendar so that you don’t forget about it!
2.) Download the app on your phone. This will allow you to get a notification when the items you want show up on sale. There is not an unlimited amount of products. The deals will go fast. Having the app and getting the notifications will help you score the deals you really want.
3.) There are two ways to get notifications for items you are interested in.
- Fill your cart with items you are interested in. This is why planning ahead is important. For example, I know I want to buy my daughter her first Tricycle for Christmas. I will put the Tricycle in my shopping cart on the day before Prime Day. Then on Prime Day, they will send me a notification when/if that item goes on sale.
- Use the app to browse the deals on your phone. You will be able to look at upcoming deals and mark that you want a notification when they go on sale. I would love to help you with this! More on how I can help you in #5.
4.) Buy the items when the deal for that items starts. Do not fill up your cart and wait to purchase everything at the end of the day. The item may have been sold out by then. Buy it right away, so that you don’t miss out. It will all cost the same in the long run because you are not paying any shipping.
5.) Like my Facebook page. Just because you put an item in your cart, does not guarantee that it will go on sale. There is a high chance, but I can’t promise anything. Also, do you have all day to browse the app for the deals you want? Probably not. I can look for the deals for you! I will be looking for deals to help you keep a simple home and will be posting them on my Facebook on July 16 so make sure you have Liked My Page!
Other Amazon Prime Day Tips
Those are the 3 main things you need to know but I would like to give you a few more tips to make sure you have a successful prime day experience and shop like a frugal minimalist.
Think ahead to who you need to buy gifts for.
Whether it be for Christmas or a Birthday. Do you know what you want to buy for them? If so, then you should look it up on Amazon and put it in your shopping cart. (Remember you are not making any purchases yet.)
Are there things you could stock up on?
Last year Bounty Paper towels had an amazing deal. It was about $33 dollars for a huge stockpile. The people who stocked up are just now running out. That is a year worth of paper towels for $33!
**Please do not stock up on paper towels if you do not have a place to put the paper towels. This will only cause clutter in your home and while we are trying to score some good deals, we always want to keep our homes clutter free. Put a shelf in the basement to keep your stockpiles out of site! I bet there will be storage shelves on sale on Prime Day!
Get Kindle Unlimited for 99 cents
This gives you 3 months of Kindle Unlimited for $0.99. Normally Kindle Unlimited is $9.99 a month. Obviously, this is a great deal if you have a Kindle, but you can also download these books and read them on other devices. Electronic books are a great way to keep clutter out of your home. Kindles are one of the items that you will be able to grab for a great deal.
