DIY Dollar Tree Cupcake Stand – Farm House Style

DIY cupcake stand – this simple dollar tree cake stand can be put together in just minutes. This budget-friendly craft can be made to accommodate as many cupcakes as you’d like.

Rather than purchase expensive store-made cupcakes, I decided to make my daughter’s birthday treats on my own. After all the effort I went through to make both the cupcakes, and the wrappers, I knew I wanted to display them in a fun way.

I was trying to spend as little as possible, while still allowing her to have a nice birthday. This is why I decided to make my own DIY Dollar Tree cupcake stand.

How to Make Your DIY Cupcake Stand

I made this DIY cupcake stand in mere minutes, and got so many kind comments about it during the party—I thought you all might be able to use this fun party trick, too. It is so easy. I know that anyone can do this, even if you wouldn’t exactly call yourself a crafter.

This is an easy one to do during nap time or even while your kids are playing on their own. It will take you about five minutes to do. Maybe ten at the most. Here are the details for this DIY Dollar Tree cupcake stand and how to make one of your own.

Supplies Needed for the Dollar Tree Cake Stand

Part of what makes this project so simple is how few supplies you need. I bought every item on this list at my local Dollar Tree. I know not everyone has a dollar tree around, so I also have linked each supply below so you can quickly grab it off Amazon. It will be cheaper at the Dollar Tree, though.

  • 1 large plastic serving tray
  • 2 small plastic serving trays
  • 2 candle holders – choose ones that have a wider base and are thicker to help alleviate any wobbliness
  • hot glue or super glue

How to Make the Cupcake Stand

Let’s start making! Set aside five minutes and make this cute Dollar Tree cupcake stand.

  1. Put down the largest plastic tray, right side up. This will act as the base for the diy cupcake stand.
  2. Use your hot glue or super glue to add a candle holder to the middle. You need to make it as close to dead center as possible.
  3. Rim the top of the candle holder with more glue, than add the small plastic tray to the top. Again, get it as perfectly center as possible.
  4. Repeat with the last candle holder and tray.

That’s it! The only problem I ran into was dollar tree cupcake stand did wobble slightly. To alleviate this, make sure everything is centered. It also helps if your candlesticks are on the thicker side.

To keep the DIY cupcake stand from falling over, I wouldn’t really recommend making it any taller than three or four trays.

Customize the DIY Cupcake Stand

You can customize the style and look this DIY cupcake stand easily by using different colored trays or styles of candles holders. My daughter’s birthday party was elephant themed, and I made these super cute elephant cupcake wrappers, so I wanted to keep my dollar tree cake stand simple and let the cupcakes themselves shine.

I had originally planned on spray painting the whole cupcake stand, white. As you can tell I decided against that. I ended up liking this simple look a lot better.

This DIY cupcake stand turned out super cute. I can use this again and again, and it was only 5 dollars!! You can’t beat that. ?

You can totally make this your own. Spray paint this any color, use different shaped trays, or even use other objects in place of the candle holders. I thought the little glass cups or small flower vases, from the Dollar Tree, would have also worked well.

Keep in mind, if you decide to use spray paint, the paint is likely not food safe. If you have cupcakes in wrappers you may feel comfortable with that, but I definitely would not put cake on it without a wrapper.

I also could imagine doing this with thrifted plates instead of a plastic tray. A few old pieces of serving china stacked would be lovely—although not as kid-safe perhaps. 🙂

However you decide to make a cupcake stand, it’s that easy! It’ll look like it came from a high-end store, but you can share the top-secret info about how you made it with your friends. 🙂
