Tips for Using Essential Oils Without a Diffuser
When I first started using essential oils, I thought the only thing you did with them used them in an essential oil diffuser. Boy, was I wrong. There are literally thousands of ways to use essential oils and the benefits are endless. I’m going to share with you, some of the ways that I use essential oils, without having to spend any more money.

Shower Tips
While taking a hot shower, put a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil on the shower floor. The steam from the hot water and the eucalyptus will help you relieve some stress at the end of a long day. It will also help to clear up your airways and any congestion that you may have. If it’s a shower to start your day, then add lemon or orange essential oil. This will help wake you up and make you feel ready to conquer the day.
There are countless DIY beauty products you can make with essential oils to use in the shower, but it doesn’t need to be that complicated.
Just add a few drops to your current products to get the benefits. I add a couple drops of rosemary to my shampoo to help keep my hair strong. I’ve always had thick hair, but you don’t even want to get me started on how horrible my postpartum hair loss was. The rosemary has helped me gain back my healthy hair.
Bathroom Tips
Filling up the bathroom sink with hot water and a few drops of essential oils can do multiple things for you. You can stand over the sink, take some slow deep breaths, and get the benefit of the aromatherapy.
I usually use peppermint for this. It helps with my headaches, allergies, and the smell of the bathroom.
After I’ve taken advantage of the peppermint smell for myself, I go do some other chores while the water and oil sit in the sink. When I come back, I use the water mixture and a towel to wipe down the surfaces in the bathroom. After I drain the sink, the smell will still linger for a couple days; plus, now I have a clean bathroom.
Another thing I do to help keep the bathroom smelling fresh is to add a few drops of essential oils to the toilet bowl and flush. Just pick your favorite scent and ta-da! Your bathroom smells clean and fresh and not like bleach.
Kitchen Tips
The sink trick works in the kitchen, as well. However, there are a few adjustments you can make while in the kitchen. First of all, I like to use lemon or lime essential oils in the kitchen.
Secondly, instead of filling up the sink, I just drop a couple drops down the drain.
This is especially helpful on the side with the disposal. I think we’re all guilty of letting a gross food smell build up in the sink from time to time. This knocks it right out. You can also drop it on the stainless steel and scrub it around with a scrubby brush. Your sink never looked or smelled so clean.
Vacuuming Tip
I’ve talked before about using essential oils to vacuum. You can read more about that here.
Sometimes we are in a hurry and don’t want to take the time to make a carpet cleaner. Here is a quick tip that will only take a few seconds.
Take a cotton ball, a small wad of toilet paper, or anything else similar, put a few drops of orange essential oil on it, suck it up with the vacuum, and vacuum your house.
When doing this I use orange essential oil because one, it’s my favorite, and two, I think it appeals to the most people. You can use any oil of your choosing.
The oil will help keep the vacuum clear of bacteria and the circulating air will spread the orange smell around the house.
Straw Wrapper or Clothespin Tip
Another random thing you can do is to put a small amount on a paper straw wrapper and thread it through your car vent.
This will allow you to enjoy the aroma as you are driving, as long as you are using the air conditioning or heat. Use whatever oil you are needing most that day. Do you and the kiddos have a stuffy nose? Use eucalyptus. Stressed about work? Use lavender, orange, cedarwood, or whatever scent is most pleasing to you, as you commute to work.
I have also heard of people doing this with a clothespin. I have never tried it myself. If you try it out let me know how it goes! I know some people will use the clothespin in the air vents of their house as well.
