For my daughter’s 2nd birthday I wanted to keep things simple, budget-friendly, and cute. She loves Elephants so I knew I wanted it to be a girly elephant themed birthday on a budget.

 

 

The Cupcakes

 

I decided to make my own cupcakes for two reasons. One, because making my own cake is a lot cheaper than buying one, and two, because cupcakes are a lot easier to serve to the party guest.

 

I went with a Funfetti cake mix with pink and purple icing. To keep everything fun and whimsical, I used bright colored cupcake holders.

 

Then, to make sure this was a girly elephant themed birthday, I made these adorable cupcake wrappers with bright colored elephants on them. You can get a free download below. 

 

 

I thought the cupcakes turned out super cute! They definitely were the star of the birthday party. I do not consider myself a cupcake artist by any means… did you see that icing job?! But regardless I got tons of compliments on the cupcakes.

 

 

Not only were the elephant wrappers a hit, but the cupcake display turned out great as well. I displayed the cupcakes on a cupcake stand that I made myself. I made the stand for 5 dollars with materials I got from the dollar tree.

 

Other Budget-Friendly Details

 

To add a few more details to the girly elephant themed birthday on a budget, I bought plates and napkins that matched the theme. I got these online from the Oriental Trading Company. I also added a couple of bowls, that we already had, full of brightly colored candy.

 

Lastly, I put up some decorations around the area where the birthday girl would sit. I keep a birthday sign and some garland that I use from year to year. This keeps down on the cost of decorations and is always a cute touch.

Remember it’s okay to keep it simple! We also kept the guest list simple and only invited our closest friends and family. This helped with the budget and kept down the number of new toys brought into our home.
